The only place any member of the human race should find pleasure in others' pain is when watching any one of Quentin Tarantino's violently intoxicating films. With his newest release, Django Unchained being one of his best films to date, incorporating all the elements of his previous films that we've all fallen in love with: blood, humour, non-linear storyline, and Samuel L. Jackson. Tarantino's film making is one of the most iconic in modern cinema, and he certainly pushes the envelope with this one. His attention to detail are what, I believe, really define his style: the little things that may seem so insignificant independently, but when pieced together create for an unforgettable cinematic experience. I mean, only Quentin Tarantino could pull off a rap song in a Western film's score, KKK members fighting over mis-made uniforms, and saving himself a cameo in almost every film.
From the first few moments of the film you become completely immersed into Tarantino's wacky take on the wild, wild west... and love every minute of it. Although set in the 19th century, the dialogue and humour are still relevant and enjoyable for viewers. Jamie Foxx is excellent as the self empowered titular character, but the film's supporting actors stole the show. Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz were breathtaking as the ruthless plantation owner and the smooth talking bounty hunter; their performances commanded the attention of the audience in every scene. Their characters, although polar opposite by nature, were both so intriguing and unique, that by the time the film ended I just wanted more.
Two thumbs way, WAY up.
